Motive Selected by BT to Optimize Delivery and Support of Entire Digital Services Portfolio

AUSTIN, Texas, Aug. 12, 2004 -

Motive, Inc. (NASDAQ: MOTV), a leading provider of management software, today announced that BT, Europe’s second largest telecommunications provider, has chosen to standardize on Motive technology to build self-management capabilities into BT’s entire existing and next-generation consumer and business data services.

Now serving more than 20 million business and residential customers, BT continues to grow. This, coupled with the provider’s “21st Century” initiative to transform its network and expand its portfolio of services, necessitated a new type of software that could help BT automate a range of management tasks for any type of data service, in any networked residential or business environment. After evaluating several vendors, BT chose Motive as the only vendor that could build automation directly into BT’s services. As a result, these services can guide individuals through effortless configuration and problem resolution steps, regardless of where the service is installed, what it is connected to, or how often it changes.

“Motive’s unique ability to make management a built-in feature of a wide range of products and services provides significant advantage for BT,” said Mike Galvin, director in BT’s Retail Internet Operations. “In order for us to successfully execute on our 21st Century plans, we needed to work with a company capable of understanding how to profitably equip every BT offering – now and in the future – with a way to sense and respond to varied devices and networked environments, all while ensuring the customer has a seamless experience with our service. Motive’s innovative software has already proven successful in our residential broadband business, and we look forward to extending this model to our new offerings.”

Since deploying Motive software more than two years ago, BT has seen a substantial reduction in technical support calls and millions of dollars in savings. This new agreement between BT and Motive expands the companies’ existing relationship to include Motive’s entire set of broadband management products: Broadband Manager, Customer Service Manager, Usage Policy Manager, and Business Class Manager.

“We’re proud of the work we’ve done to help BT support its residential broadband customers,” said Kenny Van Zant, executive vice president of Motive’s Consumer Business Unit. “This new agreement goes a step further by validating the importance of a self-management strategy for all of BT’s digital services, including home networking, enhanced consumer services, and small business services. We look forward to continuing our relationship with BT and helping them to build management into their products to create a competitive advantage in the broadband market.”
